Purimgifts 2021 Dear Creator Letter
Jan. 2nd, 2021 11:16 pmThanks for joining Purimgifts! I hope you have a lot of fun and get some great gifts! Don't feel bound by my suggestions at all, I'm sure I'll love whatever you make. However, I know it's nice sometimes to get a feel for what your recipient likes before doing your thing, and since I like talking about these fandoms anyway... I'll put some ideas down so you can knock a few together and see if any of them strike a creative spark.
General Likes
I like fun adventure things, and found family things. Culture Clash is a great trope. I like when people respect each other even when they hate each other.
General Dislikes
As you can probably tell from my ratings request, anything especially dark (Incest, infidelity, torture, gore, rape/non-consensual stuff, mind control, mental collapse/breakdown), especially if there's no light at the end of the tunnel. I dislike kindness being implicitly tied to naiveté and/or stupidity. I'm not a fan of the phrase "Make me a woman", though I'd probably be amused by an inversion of some sort. And the "Young woman/girl hates and fears her awesome powers" trope gives me hives - do not want.
League of Legends
League of Legends is my main fandom, I love Lux Crownguard. The new lore is not really to my taste, and in particular they managed to find one of my few squicks and stick it right in the middle of Lux's new backstory. What kind of luck is that? XD
The Institute of War era lore didn't take itself too seriously, but honestly I consider that a plus, and brings us to my second point... Severely Underutilized Wordplay Opportunities. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? We have in-game terms like "Knock-Up" and "Rooted" and nobody's going to bring out the ol' double entendre? Personally, I think it's a shame and an injustice that the term "Face-checking (somebody's) bush" hasn't become in-fandom slang for oral sex.
If you prefer more serious topics Culture Clash is kind of a middle ground, because it can be silly, or it can be serious, and as someone steeped in both Demacian and Noxian culture, Lux is ideal for bouncing those ideas around. For the full-serious experience may I suggest either the stress inherent to being a child-soldier deployed alone behind enemy lines, or possibly the emotional turmoil of coming to understand and sympathize with your ancestral enemies?
I like friend/family content for Lux with Garen, Jarvan, Janna, and Ezreal, and I like romance content for Lux with Darius or Talon, and if you have a strong argument for Draven or Yasuo I'd like to hear it.
If you're Not Into Demacians, I'd enjoy Du Couteau sibling content, something focussing on Janna, or some political intrigue with Karma.
Hellspark
Hellspark is a great book by a great author. I mean, the book itself is about Culture Clash so obviously I would be inclined to like it. I love Tocohol and Maggy and their relationship. Maggy's perspective on the people and cultures she meets is so interesting. Buntec is great! She's so creative and enthusiastic.
A few ideas I'd find interesting
Marvel Cinematic Universe
I read Marvel Comics back in the day, so if you want to blend the two that is A-OK. In fact I much prefer Wanda's comic origin if you want to use her. I started a list of characters I like and it was basically all of them so I decided that was unhelpful. Most of them have pretty adventurous work-lives so some universe-typical world-saving would be perfect, but I also like reading about down-time if you want to deal with their personal lives. A major part of Carol Danvers' story was her excelling in a male-dominated field and I think there are various characters who could commiserate/compare their similar experiences, in particular I think Jane Foster would be interesting, but there are lots of options.
A few character specific prompts from previous years:
And I always offer the Crack Option: Pepper Potts is related to the Potts family from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Shadow Unit
Lately I've really been wondering about the future, especially what the world is like for some of the younger characters when they grow up. Autumn's life - growing up with Reyes, or once she's out on her own. Reyes kind of has a legacy - how does she relate to it... or not? Renee's recovery, and what happens to her after. The same for Susannah Greenwood. I'm also very interested in Patty, from Hope is Stronger than Love. Did she end up with Aunt Lee? Did she ever email Chaz? What was her life like once she grew up?
I'd love to see some found family content for Worth, Gates, and Villette. But Esther with her daughters, or her daughters after the canon events would also be great.
If you wanted to write something with the original characters, but set after the original works I’d love to see something with Nikki in her new role. And if you want to explore something from the other side of the team Natalie Summers-Barrington, or Anna Krol would be great to read about.

A few ideas I'd find interesting
- How the relationship between Buntec and Edge-of-Dark unfolds
- Tocohl and Maggy meeting back up with Om im during the Festival of St. Vesche
- Exploring the aftereffects of the Hellspark Ritual of Change
- Swift-Kalat and Alfvaen visit Hellspark to check on Maggy's current status
- One of the cases Tocohl deals with as part of her apprenticeship with her dad

A few character specific prompts from previous years:
- Darcy and Jane, saving the world
- Science Sisters: Jane, Betty, and Helen, supporting each other in pursuit of SCIENCE! (Add Darcy at will.)
- Redheads Rule the World: Pepper and Natasha are badass, make taking down a government look easy (or any activity really)
- Shield Taskforce: Natasha, Sharon, and Maria doing cool agent things (include Melinda May if you like Agents of Shield)
- Tales from Back in the Day: Peggy Carter's further adventures in Shield. I'm not sure how old Melinda May is supposed to be (haven't seen the entire show) but given Ming-Na Wen's age her career could overlap with Peggy's.
- The Power of Science and Anime on Our Side: Any combination of the science group and the agent group
And I always offer the Crack Option: Pepper Potts is related to the Potts family from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
